Ouro Preto Accommodation Grande Hotel de Ouro Preto Sustainability

Vilma

The Grande Hotel counts on Vilma to receive and take care of every guest. She was born in Ouro Preto, where she attended High School and later got her Accounting degree.

After working in assorted market segments, including a music store, she arrived at the Grande Hotel, where she loves her job. The contact with foreigners was what particularly captivated her. One of Vilma's favourite tasks during work is to talk about Ouro Preto, mostly about its charming nightlife.

Married to a military man and a mother of two kids, she wouldn't move from Ouro Preto for the world. "When the sky is wide open, the stars make Ouro Preto lovely, mainly when the moon comes from behind the Nossa Senhora do Carmo Church," says Vilma.

For her, the history and past are the highlights of this lovely town. Although she understands that Ouro Preto has some issues, she would hate to hear complaints coming from an outsider. So when talking to her, better bring up only the good side of Ouro Preto!

Caring for destination

This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.

Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:

Supporting local community and tourism trade.

Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:

Grande Hotel financially supports Fundação Sorria (Smile Foundation), an institution that contributes to the dental care of the local community. About seven thousand children and youngsters have received free and quality dental treatment from the Foundation. Grande Hotel contributes with donations and also by purchasing soaps made by Fundação Sorria.

Further, Grande Hotel donates monthly to ADOP (http://www.adop.org.br), a social and economic development agency that helps the growth of Ouro Preto. Some of ADOP's measures include English and French classes and training to travel professionals. Informally, they also support local guides by helping them with transportation and provisions, and are concerned about waste management.
